The battle of the leftist extremists and the ultra right wing conservatives never ceases to stagnify the human race from going where it needs to go to prosper, much less survive, this century, much less the rest of the millennium. The countless wasted lives and squandered opportunities spent hassling political ideologies are proof of the vanities of the extremes at full force. Tis is where democracy gets messy.
Democracy requires tolerance for alternative discourse and social practices of modern governance by the people and for the people. That’s why elections really matter. That’s why deliberative bodies such as Congress, state legislatures and city councils, elected by citizens, matter, and the citizen representatives freely elected to deliberate policies relevant to governance and cultural practices matter as to the behavior of society.
Leaders of society at opposite poles need to recognize they will never really win allout victory. Each extreme that thinks its way will solve every human problem will always face an opposition. The solution to peace is never an extremist victory but deliberate agreement among ideals towards the middle where tolerances converge. For this the left and the right will have to accept certain truths about the other sides that will never go away.
True blue leftists will have to accept that there are people who like to engage in private enterprise and pursue entrepreneurships of a personal nature for monetary gain and dividends. So it goes. No man is an island, and tycoons should be held accountable for the shoulders and brains they use to achieve their wealth. Fair tolerance can be achieved through taxation and criminal and civil regulation of commercial activity.
Leftists must give up their dream of confiscating all firearms. It will never happen.
Leftists also must learn to refrain from compulsion to sanitize the vocabulary of the earth. Taking a tip from intolerances of the far right, engaging in purges on behalf of the greater good results in foolish overreach against privacy, democracy and liberty.
The hard core right has to admit that government social programs exist for good reason because legitimate private enterprise cannot by itself profitably fulfill the societal needs for the modern standard of living. It is not too much to ask for clean tapwater for all. What gets doled out in simple social services is a cheap price to pay for the blessings of shared prosperity and greatness.
Right wingers need to realize apocalypse is not a foregone conclusion and it is within a collective effort to avert disasters like war and climate deterioration. Nature can be unspoiled. Some may not enjoy a view of windmills or solar fields, but clean energy is a logical goal, not coal.
The right needs to admit that some women will inevitably choose to terminate pregnancy, and rather than criminalizing the decision should devote efforts to dissuasion such as their billboards of cute babies.
The right has to answer what’s wrong with teaching kids to be activists. What’s wrong with public lands, globalism, diversity, equity of inclusion?
Both sides need to concede interpretations of justice and law enforcement. Whether white collar or on the street, the civil and criminal code must be applied fairly for public safety and social order and not biased towards persecution, retribution, subversion or suppression.
Uneasy peasy.
